The American Hungarian Library and Historical Society, established in 1955 is one of the oldest Hungarian cultural institutions and one of the owners of the Hungarian House in New York City. The mission of the AHLHS is to promote interest in and knowledge of Hungary, to gather and preserve books and material with historical value and make them available to the public. We also strive to be a center of Hungarian cultural programs, specifically art and literature, in New York City. The AHLHS also operates The Hungarian Archives, a free digital and online archive for the purpose of collecting amateur pre-digital era photos, documents, and other materials of interest to record the histories and lives of Hungarians living around the globe, their communities and their organizations.
