The American Indian and Indigenous Studies Program (AIISP) provides a unique combination of American Indian and Indigenous Studies (AIIS) courses and other educational, social, and cultural opportunities to American Indian students. We recruit applicants from all parts of the United States, Canada, and from across the globe, through regional efforts and national conferences. The mission of the American Indian and Indigenous Studies Program (AIISP) is to aid the development of new generations of educated Native and non-Native peoples who will contemplate, study and contribute to the building of nation and community on a global scale. Additional goals of our program are: 1. Develop recruitment and retention practices to enable American Indian and Indigenous students to complete their academic programs at Cornell. 2. Provide a challenging curriculum for undergraduate and graduate students in American Indian and Indigenous Studies (AIIS) that encompasses a variety of disciplines, utilizes university resources, and reflects an accurate portrayal of Indigenous Peoples within historical, social and contemporary arenas. 3. Build the intellectual foundation for the resurgence of Native community and nation through rigorous scholarship and research. 4. Develop an outreach program that facilitates the learning environment through a comprehensive dialogue grounded in Indigenous culture.
