Dhahran Academy was founded in 1962 as a non-profit, co-educational, day school for children of American Consulate staff. It is composed of three schools located next to the U.S. Consulate for the Eastern Province in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. By decree of the Saudi government in 1999, Dhahran Academy set in motion changes to provide a full Pre-K through Grade 12 program with the addition of Dhahran High School (DHS), the first of its kind in the kingdom.The Senior class of 2001 marked Dhahran High School's first graduating class. Graduates from DHS receive a high school diploma from Saudi Arabia's first American curriculum high school, accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.In 2010, the Dhahran High School International Baccalaureate Center (DHS IB) was founded under the auspices of Dhahran High School. DHS offers the full IB Diploma Program. The first cohort of 26 students graduated in May 2013. In 2016, DHS introduced the AP Capstone diploma. The first AP Capstone cohort graduated in May 2018.Dhahran High School is located in the city of Dhahran which is adjacent to the commercial and government centers of Al-Khobar and Dammam. The city of Dhahran includes the Royal Saudi Air Base, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and headquarters for Saudi Aramco. The geographic area of DHS is the Arabian Gulf in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.On January 2022, Dhahran High School and Dhahran Elementary Middle School will be relocating to a world-class, purpose-built campus as the American School Dhahran (ASD).
