American Story Channel (ASC) delivers a tablet-based Storyland for preschool children where storytelling is integrated with gamification and hidden learning. Fresh new user-friendly content is marketed in 12 languages, via tablet computers, smart phones, and other devices, as well as multiple complementary markets (e.g., eBooks, videos, toys, and animated TV series), building a marketing ecosystem. The company's immersive, multimedia experience is specially designed for today's ‘Digital Natives', aka Millennials and their children (1980 to date), who were born into the age of digital technology. Through interacting with digital technology from as early as 18 months, they are different than previous generations. At the same time, the Internet and mobile technology have altered delivery channels forever and made it well suited for them. The technology of mass communication and mass media has moved to the technology of the individual and of self-representation. ASC is developing innovative products from the ground up using new practices, based on the new technologies and media which place the individual at the center of engagement. For ASC, entertainment means active user engagement. However, engaging with today's preschoolers requires more than technology. This is changing the nature of education, work, life and, yes, entertainment. ASC stories are customizable for a personalized experience – and tailored content, in auto mode, plays a 5- to 7-minute story. Manual play supports interactive parent engagement with children, for an immersive multimedia experience. Users can select up to 12 languages, and the ability of parents and grandparents to self-narrate the stories opens up an additional avenue of engagement.
