First established in the 1950s, our membership connects men and women with a supportive network of fellow expatriates, cultural experiences, and charitable works around the region. Membership is open to all genders and nationalities who wish to engage in Indonesian cultural activities, meet new people through a variety of social events, while contributing towards the assistance of social welfare and socioeconomic projects in our community. The AWA's commitment to social welfare responds to the needs of the Indonesian community by providing volunteer services as well as private and public funds to programs which directly benefit and improve the welfare of Indonesian citizens. Preference is given to those programs that:Benefit women and childrenTouch the greatest number of peopleFocus on basic human needs: primarily health and nutrition programs, basic education, job training and critical surgeriesMany of our projects help the economically disadvantaged, such as the handicapped, elderly and orphaned. We also place great emphasis on income-generating projects and projects that emphasize self-sustainability.
