AmeriCorps Legal Advocates of Massachusetts places national service members in organizations throughout Massachusetts who provide legal assistance for low-income people in civil matters. Selected candidates receive professional supervision and rigorous training, get a hands-on experience practicing poverty law, and are exposed to a wide range of legal activities and community outreach.ALA-Massachusetts is a project of South Coastal Counties Legal Services, Inc. (SCCLS), a private non-profit law firm providing legal assistance eligible low-income clients. ALA-Massachusetts is funded through the Corporation for National and Community Service and also receives support from the Massachusetts Bar Foundation. ALA-Massachusetts is administered through our state service commission, the Massachusetts Service Alliance, and housed at the Justice Center of Southeast Massachusetts, a wholly owned subsidiary of SCCLS.
