The Amherst China Initiative (ACI) is a non-profit volunteer program founded by Amherst Alumni based in Asia that promotes American and Chinese cross-cultural exchange through work, language study and travel. ACI is a summer program open to all-years, and requires no previous teaching or language experience. There are three elements to the ACI summer program: You work as a volunteer teacher to teach low-income students English at the prestigious Zhejiang University of Technology and make a direct impact on the earning incomes of these students and their local communities. As a language student, you improve your Chinese with one-on-one instruction. Unlike other summer programs where there are ten or more students to a class, you will receive high quality, small classroom instruction that is personalized to your own interests and needs. Through an emphasis on cultural immersion you experience Chinese culture through a variety of cultural field trips, activities, performances and traveling opportunities.
