Amigitos is a Norwegian non-profit organization founded in 2014 by Siv Mika Engebretsen. Amigitos provide education, health care services and food for Haitian children and elders in a small slum area on the north coast of the Dominican Republic on the island of Hispaniola. We have built our own school where we give our children food, clean water, education and care – every day. Many of the children are from Haiti or have parents from Haiti. These children often have no ID papers, which means that they are not entitled to attend the state schools. Amigitos works directly with our small friends, which means that we get to know them and understand their needs. We see them every day and do what we can to give them a future, and we also provide extra help whenever it's needed. It's not easy to be poor and have no rights. Life is tough for these children, and we can see the value of our work in helping with their basic needs and providing them with care and education. Our motto is ‘care with action'.Our work is based on the motto that we can all make a difference. We care with action. We want to give our children the chance of a better life, and we also want to give the friends of Amigitos a chance to get involved.
