The AMS Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) is located on the unceded, traditional, ancestral, and occupied territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (Halkomelem) speaking xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nation.Since 2002, the SASC has been committed to the education, support, and empowerment of people of all genders who are survivors of sexualized violence, as well as their friends and family. We offer various resources and services to UBC students, staff, faculty, and other community members who may or may not have a connection to the UBC campus. Colonialism depends upon the suppression of first peoples, the collusion of settlers, and ongoing efforts to undermine first people's safety, wellbeing, rights, land, language, community, and dignity. Sexualized violence was, and continues to be, a weapon of colonization. The impacts of colonization in Canada are seen in the disproportionate rates at which Indigenous peoples are targeted for sexualized and racialized violence.As an anti-violence organization on unceded land, we commit to ongoing efforts of education and decolonization.
