Since 2010, An Open Book has promoted literacy by bringing children's authors and illustrators of the highest caliber into over 120 DC-area schools in low-income settings and giving books to students and their classroom and school libraries.AOB provides dynamic, high-quality programming in DC-area public and public charter schools to students from pre-K through high school for students furthest from educational justice. After the author's presentation, we give each student a copy of the featured title, the author signs the books while enjoying a short one-on-one conversation with each student, and we donate a set of the author's books to the classroom and school libraries. Our programming includes several types of literacy support for students. * Author and Illustrator Visits* Book Distribution* Pre- and Post-Event Extension Activities* Book Clubs * Artist-in-Residence Programs* Little Free Library NetworkPresentations are as varied and creative as the books' words and pictures — authors and illustrators have taught poetry workshops, bookmaking, collage, mindfulness, and movement. An Open Book also followed multiple events with in-class extension activities and coordinated post-event extensions with our nonprofit partners.
