My name is John J. Smith and I am a 62 year old Professional Civil Engineer who has lived in McHenry, IL all of my life. I sold my Professional Engineering firm (SEC Group, Inc.) in 2009 and since then have been active in the community trying to encourage entrepreneurship and revitalization of the community. I currently serve as President of the McHenry Riverwalk Foundation, a group of leaders that are bringing vibrancy and energy to the greatest natural resource the City of McHenry has, that being the Fox River. We have succeeded in building approximately 50% of the Riverwalk to date with the balance projected to be completed in the next few years. I personally have since purchased a vacant building and have renovated it so that it would be attractive for development. My goal is to NOT make a lot of money leasing or selling this building but to bring economic growth and opportunity to the City of McHenry.
