APACE WA was formed in 1985 at Winter House, North Fremantle as an environmental organisation focused on providing ecologically sustainable services, community development and education and work and support for unemployed and disadvantaged people. The APACE native plant nursery developed following some initial environmental restoration projects and has since grown to over 400,000 plants/year, with 400 different local indigenous species. APACE offer expertise in environmental restoration, sustainable landscape design, weed management in sensitive areas and seed collection and propagation of native plants. The APACE name originated from the phrase ' Appropriate Technology and Community Environment' and A 'pace' - as in, being ahead of the game on environmental innovation.
