Ace PSLE Exams (APEX) Mentors is a voluntary mentoring programme initiated in 2008 by a group of students from various tertiary institutions in Singapore. It is a weekly programme primarily designed to provide academic assistance in Mathematics and Science for Primary 6 madrasah students in preparation for the PSLE. The impetus behind its establishment was the enactment of the Compulsory Education (CE) Act which requires madrasahs to meet an MOE-determined PSLE benchmark at least twice in a three-year period. This would allow madrasahs to maintain their "Designated School" status and continue enrolling students exempted from CE in national schools, thereby ensuring continuity of the pool of future Asatizah in Singapore. With the support and trust of the dedicated teachers at Madrasah Al-Irsyad Al-Islamiah, APEX started off in 2008 with 20 mentors and 60 Primary 6 students from Al-Irsyad, then located at Winstedt Road in Newton. Over the years, APEX has had the opportunity to serve other madrasahs including Madrasah Al-Arabiah Al-Islamiah, Madrasah Wak Tanjong Al-Islamiah and Madrasah Al-Maarif Al-Islamiah. As of 2018, APEX has approximately 40 registered mentors and is currently active at Madrasah Irsyad Zuhri Al-Islamiah and Madrasah Wak Tanjong Al-Islamiah. Apart from academic mentoring, APEX also organises the annual APEX Camp and semestral enrichment sessions for our students. Special programmes are run for our mentors as well, and these include the APEX Toolkit, APEXpedition, and Ramadhan2Remember.Our mentors are crucial resources in realising the aims of APEX. We thus continue to seek passionate individuals to be part of our APEX programme and contribute to this worthy cause.Be part of the culture. Be part of the excitement. Be part of the APEX family!
