Apollo Music Society Details
Apollo Music Society is a music society at the University of Melbourne, open to students of all faculties and backgrounds. Formerly known as Apollo Health Music Society, it was founded in 2002 by a group of second-year medical students who witnessed a visiting troupe of Portuguese medical students put on an enthralling performance at the University's Sunderland Theatre. This event inspired our founders to create Apollo: a focal point for students of the health sciences to gather and pursue their musical interests.From our humble beginnings as a small string orchestra, Apollo has flourished to become a well-established member of the cultural life at the University of Melbourne. Our membership includes students of all faculties, even outside music, and also students from other tertiary institutions around Victoria, such as Monash University and RMIT. Since our inception, we have also seen the birth and growth of several new ensembles, including the Jazz, Fusion, and Rock bands, our classical Choir and pop Acapollo (A Capella) groups, and several one-off mini-performance groups during our semesterly concerts.
