AQASS is a research and consultancy team with over 40 years' combined experience in assessing aquatic habitat and water resource management. We provide high level advisory services backed by academic rigour in the field of marine/aquatic ecology and water resource management. A core team with academic status, we have a research and education background with commercial acumen and experience. Team members include Dr Ilse Steyl with a background in water resources management and global experience in the Philippines, Kazakhstan, China, Tibet, Africa and Europe, and Dr Simon Bray who has a PhD in antifoul pollution and impacts on non-target species. This has led to his involvement in marine pollution risk assessments, biofouling management and non-native marine species risk, port and harbour management for ecological and pollution management goals and general marine ecology.In conjunction with our team and associates we are working on:• Management of a major urban river restoration feasibility study;• Assessment of Natural Capital from catchment management;• Input to Habitat Regulations Assessment for a project proposal.In 2018, our studies included:• End-of-life management of glass fibre boats, pollution risks and future policy with specific reference to Small Island Developing States (UN);• Research needs considering microplastic release from antifouling paints, risks, levels and understanding (UN);• Risks for marine systems from a major arts project (Imperial War Museum);• Assessment of pollution inputs and future management options in the Gulf (World Bank);We have ongoing research projects in biofouling, geospatial assessment and are co-supervising a PhD considering functional roles for marine non-native species.Our goal is to achieve sustainable management of aquatic systems backed by sound research knowledge. We are a micro-SME team, with large aspirations to achieve management of aquatic systems through research and application.
