AquaLab is a division of Decagon Devices, Inc. which was founded in 1983 by Dr. Gaylon Campbell, a renowned soil scientist at Washington State University. AquaLab focuses on measuring total moisture (water activity, moisture content, and moisture sorption isotherms) in foods, pharmaceuticals, and other products. AquaLab's instruments are used by more than 80% of the top 100 food companies, as well as pet food manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, universities, government agencies, research and testing labs, and in other industrial applications. When Decagon was founded in 1983, Water activity was still an emerging concept. Now most companies measure water activity to ensure the safety and quality of their products.
