aquila biolabs is a German technology company focusing on the development of innovative laboratory devices for the analysis of shake-flask fermentations in biotechnological, chemical and pharmaceutical research and development. The company was founded in 2014 in Aachen and was initally subsidised by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as well as the European Union as part of the EXIST scholarship. In 2015 aquila biolabs closed a seven-digit seed investment from the investors Seed Fonds Aachen II, the KfW Bankengruppe, the Qiagen co-founder and successful business angel Dr. Jürgen Schumacher as well as Robert Huber. The company's first product, the Cell Growth Quanitfier (CGQ), entered the market by the end of 2015 and is globally distributed by the aquila biolabs sales force as well as aquila's distribution partner, the Swiss incubation shaker specialist Infors HT. Ever since its establishement aquila biolabs won severeal prices at major business plan competitions, such as Europe's biggest business plan competition Science4Life, and is currently ranked among the TOP 10 start-ups in Germany.
