Arab Urbanism is an independent and open bi-lingual platform for documenting, debating, and disseminating critical ideas regarding the past, present, and future of cities in the Arab region.Our first project, the Arab Urbanism online platform and magazine will publish articles that address the state of architectural and planning theory and practice in the Arab region, bringing to question a variety of issues - including the politics of design, urban justice, and the right to the city - that are relevant to urban researchers, practitioners, and residents.Our hope is that this platform will develop into a collective space where ideas are shared among all critical urbanists working in the Arab region.Our team comprises of a diverse group of researchers and practitioners from the region who are based in or working on a wide range of urban issues (including urban history, architecture, infrastructure, informality, reconstruction, heritage, and planning) and urban centres including Cairo, Tunis, Beirut, Homs, Jaffa, and Ramallah, among other cities in the region.العُمران العربي هي منصّة مفتوحة ومستقلّة تسعى لتوثيق ومناقشة ونشر أفكار نقديّة تتعلّق بماضي وحاضر ومستقبل المدن في المنطقة العربيّة.سنقوم عبر مشروعنا الأول، وهو مشروع المساحة الإلكترونيّة والمجلّة الفصليّة بنشر مقالات تتناول حال نظريّات وممارسات العمران والتخطيط في المنطقة العربيّة، وطرح مواضيع متعدّدة تشمل، على سبيل المثال وليس الحصر، سياسات التصميم والعدالة الإجتماعيّة والحق في المدينة ومواضيع أخرى تهم الباحثين/ات والمتمرّسين/ات والمقيمين/ات في المنطقة.يتشكّل فريق عملنا من مجموعة من الباحثين/ات والمتمرّسين/ات في المنطقة العربيّة المهتمّين/ات في شتى الموضوعات المتعلّقة في العُمران (مثل تاريخ المدن والعمارة والبنى التحتية والعشوائيّات وإعادة الإعمار والتراث والتخطيط) في مختلف مدن المنطقة بما في ذلك القاهرة وتونس وبيروت وحمص ويافا ورام الله ومدن أخرى.
