Research - Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
The Australian Research Council's Industrial Transformation Research Hub for Transforming the Mining Value Chain (TMVC) encompasses a wide array of activities from exploration, discovery, ore deposit characterisation, and environmental assessment, through to mining, ore processing and waste rock disposal. The main objective of the TMVC is to improve efficiencies within the value chain, focussing on areas that will have a marked impact on the value of Australia's mineral resources, thereby benefiting the nation's economy. The minerals industry will benefit greatly through advanced mineral characterisation methods, and innovative technologies for their implementation, which will be able to be applied much earlier in the mining value chain. This will enhance decision making and maximise productivity and profitability at Australian mine sites. The TMVC is hosted at the University of Tasmania (UTAS), and draws on expertise from personnel within CODES ARC Centre of Excellence in Ore Deposits. Complementing the expertise at UTAS, the TMVC has formal links with the mining industry through the Hub's Partner Organisations (Newcrest Mining, AMIRA International, BHP Billiton & Corescan), and with other external research collaborators in the Other Organisations (Laurin Technic, RWTH Aachen University). The TMVC also acknowledges additional organisations that provide support to the Hub's research. These organisations are aligned to individual themes or projects within the TMVC.
