We would like to provide the building blocks to build XR control rooms to manage, control and monitor complex real world scenarios in a XR collaborative and scalable environment. Control room or Operations Control Centers (OCC) are known to the public thanks to the ones from JPL missions, High Energy Physics experiments like LHC at CERN, or the various fictional or real War Rooms from movies and documentaries. Many industries rely on Control Rooms to monitor in realtime heterogeneous data feeds coming from complex infrastructures. Low scalability and low flexibility are the main weakness of these highly expensive infrastructures. Control rooms will grow in complexity as IoT and multi robots infrastructures (drones, rovers, sensors etc.) will be adopted. Control rooms may need to be temporary and/or super fast to set up, like in disaster response scenarios.XR gives us the unique opportunity to design and build a new generation of Control Rooms:XR can reduce operators cognitive load, minimizing visual abstraction, maximizing information's readability, accelerating fast decision making processes.XR can integrate heterogeneous data-sets and feeds, visible on countless multiple flat screens, or mapped on realtime 3d reconstructions of observed scenarios, making situations accessible and readable to experts with different backgrounds.XR and immersive technologies can respond to all OCCs main needs and key features (collaboration, realtime visualization, flexibility, scalability etc.) as alternative to screens.
