Wireless - Los Gatos, California, United States
Arcwave was created by the merger of Advanced Radio Cells Inc. (ARCi), and CoWave Networks. The company expanded the design of a DOCSIS based broadband wireless system originally developed for WISP's, into a new wireless delivery technology for cable system operators (MSOs) to provide broadband wireless data extension from their cable plants. This product strategy created an entirely new market segment, and enabled Arcwave in one year to become the recognized industry leader in wireless cable extension. Major investors were Mayfield, SBV Partners, Comcast Capital, and Venrock. Postscript: Following changes to the Arcwave executive team during 2005, the company later ceased operations in 2007.
