Sculpture and Sport a celebration for 2012 We have invited 29 established British sculptors to each create a 1:5 scale sculptural interpretation of an Olympic or Paralympic sport, to be cast into bronze. The sculptors have been chosen on the basis of curating a collection representing a cross-section of British sculpture in the 21st Century. The sculptors are given the opportunity to liaise with a representative of their chosen sport's national governing body to gain insight into its character and dynamics. A 30th sculpture will be chosen from a nationwide sculpture competition launching in Sept 2010. The competition will be open to all. All 30 sculptures are being cast by Europe's pre-eminent art bronze foundry; Pangolin Editions in Gloucestershire. The collection will be available to support private functions in 2011 and will go on public display at a number of venues across the UK in 2012. For example it will be part of a public art event in Bath in the summer of 2012 and will be exhibited at the Oxo Tower Gallery on London's Southbank during the Games. Scale-up to life size or larger We are looking for buyers and collectors interested to commission larger versions of the sculptures and we will also be approaching potential corporate sponsors and launching a number of fundraising initiatives. Life sized versions of the sculptures will attract significant public attention and we are hoping to link them in a UK-wide sculpture trail or to locate them at Olympic Venues. A public art festival for Bath The bronze maquettes will form the core exhibition of a sport-themed public art festival in the world heritage city of Bath, summer 2012. In addition to the bronzes, Guest Artists working across a range of artistic disciplines will be invited to contribute artworks for display in the city. These will be selected to complement and broaden the event's creative appeal.
