Artemis is a project co-funded by the Justice Programme of the European Union that aims to promote the right of protection of women through the application of the EC Directive 2011/99/EU and the European Protection Order. The European Protection Order was introduced by EC Directive 2011/99/EU to allow judicial protection orders issued in criminal proceedings in one Member State to be applied in another Member State.Although protection orders could be applied to anyone in need of protection, in practice such measures are mostly applied to protect women in cases related to intimate or domestic violence, harassment, stalking or sexual assault. So far, only seven EPOs have been issued. Compared to the number of victims in the EU and the possibilities of moving among Member States, the limited number of EPOs requested is drammatically low. There is a strong need of increasing the knowledge about this instrument and its effectiveness to create a real common space of protection.Artemis Project's objective is to raise awareness and improve knowledge and skills related to the application of the EC Directive 2011/99/EU and the European Protection Order, through research and analysis, capacity building activities and information campaign aimed at lawyers, CSOs and NGOs personnel that support women in case of domestic violence, stalking and other forms of abuse, and European citizens. The project is implemented by: • EBIT Scuola di Formazione e Perfezionamento per la Pubblica Amministrazione (Italy) • Progeu – Progress in European Union. Istituto per lo Sviluppo (Italy) • Σύνδεσμος Μελών Γυναικείων Σωματείων Union of Women Association (Greece) • Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (Cyprus) • Autonomna zenska stranica (Croatia) • proFem (Czech Republic)
