Museums - Arthurdale, WV, US
Eighty plus years ago, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt had a dream to help desperate families escape poverty by offering decent housing, a good education, affordable health care, and a way to earn a living. Arthurdale became the FIRST of 99 New Deal government-built communities and the one closest to her heart; she continued to visit the homesteaders until her death. Thirty plus years ago, people like you started working to restore that dream, using their own time and money to save it. Today, our museum is not funded by the federal, state, or even county government. To keep the vision alive and the history of Arthurdale intact, we need YOU. Members of AHI support our mission to preserve the past, educate the present, and remain vital to the future. As a member, you help save and share important history. Arthurdale Heritage, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of historic Arthurdale, West Virginia. AHI operates the New Deal Homestead Museum and Craft Shop in five historic community buildings.
