Arul Chew & Partners came into existence on 6 January 1996 and the firm is a full-service firm undertaking litigation (both criminal and civil), corporate work as well as arbitration, mediation and conveyancing work. Currently, the bulk of the work of the firm consists of litigation (primarily contract, trusts, corporate and commercial and Intellectual property work), corporate work (including due-diligence, restructuring, deal negotiation / structuring of SPVs / security documentation as well as general corporate advisory and commercial agreements) and conveyancing & property work (for entities and banks). In its corporate advisory role, the firm works with law firms both local and from overseas (primarily Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Germany and Switzerland) in deal structuring, initiating a corporate presence in Singapore from incorporation to lease and other agreements on monthly retainer and/or ad-hoc work, due-diligence work, working in corporate advisory matters (through acquisition of shares or assets and SPVs with related agreements by mainly foreign interests). The firm has been involved in all levels of litigation in the Subordinate Courts, High Court including the Court of Appeal as well as statutory and other tribunals including disciplinary tribunals of professional bodies and clubs/unincorporated associations and appeals/reviews therefrom and arbitration and mediation involving both local and international parties. Some decisions have been reported in the local and foreign media. The firm deals with foreign law firms in litigation and alternative dispute resolution, particularly in Malaysia, Thailand, Yemen, The United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Germany and has instructed Queen's Counsel in England, New Zealand and Australia.
