Ascend Life Skills is all about meeting incarcerated women in the midst of their struggles and providing them with the tools required to gain confidence and strength, find new freedom, and understand the love of God through Christ Jesus. We have created and refined a highly effective curriculum customized for the turnover rate and needs of women in the Travis County jail. The curriculum has 6 core modules that are most beneficial as an integrated study. However, each module is fully independent and can be taught individually. What makes Ascend Life Skills so effective is its volunteers. Our team is an amazing group of women who love God and love the marginalized. We currently have 13 women who go into the Travis County jail (Austin Texas) on Tuesday mornings, and about 25 women involved in our prayer/letter writing ministry.Our volunteers do not preach. Each week of our 6-week curriculum is led by women who have also suffered through incarceration, sex trafficking, addiction, and other similar circumstances to our attendees, and with the love of God and mentors, overcame to find new life. Core topics covered in the 6-week curriculum are:Building vision and setting a new direction for lifeRecognizing and rejecting shame-based thinking and toxic relationshipsUnderstanding & gaining freedom from sex traffickingSetting healthy boundariesHow family relationships impact your view of GodGiving and receiving forgiveness from God and othersThe power of addiction and resources to help break the cycleJob searching, image, resumes, and being an awesome employee
