To showcase the academic, health and athletic programs of the ASF Foundation. The ASF Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established in 1982 at the request of the United States Olympic Committee. The ASF Foundation serves as a statewide mentoring organization for teaching youth the importance of academic excellence, good citizenship and healthy lifestyles.Programs of the ASF FoundationWe have awarded $286,985.00 in academic scholarships, giving the opportunity to Alabama youth to further continue their higher education through a two or four year college university.Alabama State Games - An Olympic-style event with over 20 different sports encompassing over 2,000 different events with over 6,000 participants. This is the largest multi-sport event in Alabama for youth and adults of all ages and abilities. Past notable participants included: Bo Jackson, Gold medalist Harvey Glance and Jennifer Chandler, Bobby Bowden and more!Student Ambassadors ProgramIn 2001, the program was established to present an opportunity for high school students to further develop their skills in good citizenship and leadership. Since then, the ASF Foundation has partnered with great businesses as AT&T, State Farm, the Alabama Department of Public Health, and others to promote specific initiatives such as "Don't Text and Drive," "Smoke Free Alabama," and "Don't Drink and Drive and Remember to Buckle Up." Wee Can Fight Obesity programThe ASF Foundation in conjunction with the Alabama State Department of Education, ASU HPER Department, and Governor's Commission of Physical Fitness, has provided (through grants) 256 Alabama elementary school's Physical Education classrooms a unique electronic animated exercise program using the Nintendo Wii console and exercise software. The total investment of the program exceeds $850,000 and the program is currently operating in all 67 Alabama counties.
