Our nation is in crisis because terrorism constantly threatens access to Middle Eastern sources. The current state of the world and U.S. economy have raised competition for dwindling OPEC oil which has led to the recent $ 150 per barrel spike in oil prices. China's booming economy and enormous wealth place them in a position to be able and willing to pay the going price. In short, the United States economy and strategic security is at risk. We as a nation must recognize these risks and do something about it. It is the highest calling of the oil and gas industry to explore for and develop domestic oil and gas reserves as efficiently as possible. It is the responsibility of the U.S. government to make sure we have the political environment and capital incentives which help accomplish these objectives.
