The Asian Pacific Islander Association for Japan Exchange and Teaching (API AJET) is an official special interest group with a direct affiliation with the National Association for Japan Exchange and Teaching (AJET) founded by Albert David Valderrama (Ibaraki Prefecture, 2010) and Melody Wong (Okayama Prefecture, 2011) in December of 2012.Our group aims to provide peer support for the English-speaking Asian Pacific Islander community and participants of the Japan and Teaching (JET) Programme living within Japan. We raise local and global awareness about the diverse range of issues API individuals may face here through discussions, community events, annual meetups, publications, and more. While our audience mainly consists of Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) from English teaching programs, such as the JET Programme and Interac, our content aims to cover the unique, but often unspoken, experiences that APIs living in Japan undergo. We welcome all who wish to share experiences and promote cross-cultural understanding!
