A standardised approach to recording assetsA common specification for the supply of digital data was identified as a major opportunity for the consortia members to achieve efficiency and cost savings in the process of maintaining their corporate geographic information systems (GIS) and asset management systems (AMS). Additionally, a common specification will also provide efficiencies to the Land Development Industry by removing the need to maintain separate processes and standards for numerous Councils and Utilities.A consortium of 30+ Local Councils Australia wide plus the W.A. Main Roads Department and the W.A. Department of Water has been formed to participate in the use of the A-SPEC standards.The key objective of the specifications is to record and provide "As Constructed" digital data in a GIS ready format to the A-Spec consortium members.D-Spec outlines the specifications for digital files containing drainage pipe, pit, property connections and Water Sensitive Design Elements (WSUD). This specification is available for download from the D-Spec website.R-Spec outlines the specifications for digital data of elements within the Road Reserve. Draft version 1.7 is available for public comment and can be downloaded from the D-Spec website.O-Spec outlines the specifications for digital data of Public Open Space and Recreation assets. This specification is currently being developed by our Technical Working Group.
