Attappady Social Service Organization [ASSO] is a Non-Government Organization [NGO] registered under the Malabar Societies Registration Act of 1860. ASSO was founded on the 25th of June 1987 and was registered as an NGO in 1988. It is working for the welfare of the people with due focus on their integrated development. ASSO was started for the betterment and strengthening of the farmers and scheduled population in Attappady. The scheduled population, who fought against bitter cold and epidemics in the early decades, did not have facilities even for primary education and essential health services. Seeing the poverty and backwardness of the scheduled population, the noble-hearted fathers distributed blanket, tapioca, jackfruit, other fruits and also livestock population to lift them out of the vicious circle of poverty. This was the motivating factor for starting ASSO in 1987. This type of manifold social and economic programmes led to the formation of a new organisation in the form of ASSO. We have been working in the area for the last 28 years. As per the need of the area and time, ASSO is working to fulfil the needs of the people. we especially focused on Tribal Development, Watershed Management, Jalanidhi project, Skill Training Programmes, Tribal Students' Sponsorship Programmes etc.
