Associació Escola Escandinava de Barcelona was created on Abril 2011 to organize the concrete preparations to found the Scandinavian School of Barcelona. Our mission is to offer education based on the Nordic educational style in response to the needs of both the local and Nordic families as well as of the other nationalities living in Catalonia. Teaching methodology will be based mainly on the high quality and innovative Finnish learning solutions. The outstanding success of Finnish students in the PISA surveys is often attributed to some of the following characteristics of the Finnish school model, which form the fundamental guidelines of our future school:• Fluent cooperation between school, home and society.• Teachers with high academic knowledge, adequate degrees and high level of commitment.• Emphasis on pupils' autonomy and own responsibility (vs. authoritarian models of penalty and control).• Importance of the mother tongue(s) as well as other languages.• Small groups to foster a friendly and family-like environment.• Importance of good learning strategies.• Natural learning rhythm, respecting each pupil as an individual with individual needs.• Effective models of support and inclution: "prevention instead of curing".• Importance of imagination, emotions, art, creativity and sport.• Balance between hard work, leisure time and rest.• Close relation to the nature and respect for the environment.• High quality technological equipment and good media skills.
