Atheras Analytics has developed an AI-based Outage Prediction Algorithm (OPA) that can be used for translating weather conditions, both historic and predicted, into outage predictions at Ka-band and Q/V-band.The algorithm has been derived from a database of rain-fall measurements correlated with satellite propagation measurements at Ka-band and Q-band taken at multiple locations across Europe during the last four years.Atheras Analytics is incorporating the OPA into a SaaS-based toolkit for use by Ka-band and Q/V-band satellite operators to:-(i) optimise the design of Ka-band and Q/V-band HTS ground segment networks (such as gateway specification, gateway locations and diversity arrangements);(ii) optimise the operation of HTS gateway networks by using high resolution weather forecasting to predict potential weather outages and switching traffic to a diversity/alternate gateway with the best predicted availability before an outage occurs – all managed automatically using the AI-based Outage Prediction Algorithm; and,(iii) predict telecommunications outages for operators of Ka-band user-terminals/field networks employed in mission-critical applications, such as defence and security.
