Sports Clubs/Sports Entertainment - Norfolk, VA, US
Our organization has two main programs:The first program is a free sports league for underprivileged and/or at-risk elementary-aged youth. We understand that athletics can be extremely beneficial for the development of children, but there are many people that are unable to afford the leagues that are currently being offered. We want to bridge the gap so that people of all economical situations have the same opportunities. The second program is a work-study/life skills component for underprivileged and/or at-risk high school-aged athletes. We give the high schoolers an opportunity to gain work experience by being "junior coaches" throughout the duration of the league while working with "head coaches" that will mentor them throughout the season. Additionally, the junior coaches will need to attend mandatory weekly seminars that go over various life skills such as money management, mock interviews, changing a tire, proper phone etiquette, etc. These seminars will be taught by different experts in their fields. Lastly, we will also invite individuals from various professions to speak about the vast amount of options the kids have once they graduate. Everything from college, to the military, trade school, playing professional sports overseas, etc. We want to learn about each individuals' strengths and interests to provide them with the proper tools to assist in guiding them in the right direction for their future. We will be partnering with Park Place School, Huntersville Community Center and Mercy Chefs this fall (2019) to run our first program!
