Farming - Ubatuba, São Paulo, Brazil
Regenerating native forests and diversifying smallholder farmer incomes through the use of vanilla as a high value crop. Due to political and climatic irregularities in the world's main vanilla producing region, Madagascar, unstable supply and fluctuations in market price occurs. In order to solve this problem, new production origins are a necessity. We strongly believe that Brazil will become a major vanilla producer in this decade, and we want to contribute to this movement in a socially and environmentally sustainable way!The Atlantic Rainforest Project started in 2019 through the creation of a friendship with Ignace Winandy, master vanilla curer. Since 2020 we have been doing research on the current Brazilian vanilla sector, followed institutional interest and have built a seedling production greenhouse. We have formed partnerships with local extension officers and are beginning to set up not only our own plantations but also furnishing healthy quality seedlings to local small holder farmers. Our aim is to provide them with all the cultivation knowledge and technical support they will need to produce high quality vanilla beans.
