Shearer Chevrolet was founded in 1928 by Carl Shearer, the grandfather of our current owner, Bill Shearer. Prior to getting into the car business, Carl was a railroader. Sometime after World War II, Car's sons Jack and Bob (Bill's father) joined the business and ran it until 1987 when Bill Shearer left his real estate business and became the new owner of Shearer Chevrolet at 1675 Shelburne Road in South Burlington. Since he took over the business, Bill has embarked on a steady, methodical expansion. In 1992 he purchased the Honda dealership in the Rutland area, which now operates as Shearer Honda on U.S. Route 7 south of Rutland City. In 1995 he purchased the Cadillac, Pontiac and Oldsmobile franchises at 1030 Shelburne Road in South Burlington. In 2005 he purchased the Buick and GMC Trucks franchise for Chittenden County and moved them to the 1030 Shelburne Road location. In 2007 he built a brand new, state-of-the-art collision repair facility which he named Direct Auto Body, located in a bright shiny building at the rear of the Shearer Chevrolet property. Finally, his latest purchase was the former Lewis Motors at 1301-1325 Shelburne Road, adding Acura, Audi and Volkswagen to the fold. Thus, the Shearer Automotive Group is now comprised of some of the top car and truck brands from the U.S., Japan and Germany. From work trucks to luxury cars, Shearer has it all. Many exciting changes are on the horizon for our family owned and operated dealerships.
