Since its introduction, millions of mobile phones get sold in the Australian market each year, with over 9.2 million smart phones over the last year. As a result millions of redundant handsets are lying around in home cupboards and office desks collecting dust or are getting dumped into landfill. While one of life's conveniences, unfortunately mobile phones contain a cocktail of highly toxic metals that can cause a variety of serious health and environmental issues if released into the environment and dumped into landfill.To help with the growing threat to the environment unwanted mobile phones represent, ARP was established in 2003. Its mission is to;1. Capture surplus mobile phones throughout Australia, and help prevent dumping of the millions of mobile phones into landfill; and2. Provide Service Providers an outlet to the global marketplace for end of life mobile telecommunications equipment before it loses its residual value. Including Assets that can be exported overseas and those that require safe and responsible recycling.
