Who we areWelcome to this introduction to the Australian Battery Industry Association Limited (ABIA).• The ABIA was formed in October 1990 to represent Australian companies involved in the manufacture, wholesaling, retailing and recycling of automotive batteries in the Australian market place. Membership coverage soon accounted for over 95% of automotive battery volumes in Australia.• Early initiatives of the ABIA were the recycling of lead acid batteries and advice to members on the health and safety of users and sellers of lead acid batteries.• Since 2017 the ABIA has welcomed the inclusion of all applications for batteries of all chemistries, and now represents members who are involved with batteries for Standby Power, Energy Storage, Electric Fork Lifts and other applications.• Members of the ABIA range from multinationals through to sole proprietors involving both local manufacture and importation with distribution coverage across national, multi-state and regional Australia.• The ABIA has set and maintains a "Code of Conduct" for Members, so as to ensure fair and safe practices within the Australian Battery Industry that protect both members and customers.• The objectives of the ABIA are stated in the document "What we do"• Since inception the ABIA has been involved as the Australian Battery Industry representative with entities such as ACCC, Federal and State Environment Departments, MVRIC (NSW), Attorney-General's Department, National Transport Commission, WorkSafe Victoria, Advisory Committee for the Transport of Dangerous Goods, and many other government and industry organisations. • ABIA is an Associate Member of Battery Council International
