Utilities - Perth, Western Australia, Australia
Based in Perth, Australia the Australian Microgrid Centre of Excellence (AMCOE) is a global centre of research, development, construction and education to accelerate the global development of microgrids. AMCOE is a not-for-profit organisation which intends to develop a physical facility that provides resources enabling the development and implementation of reliable, economic and sustainable energy solutions. It will also act as an inclusive centre of activity and coordination for the many organizations (public, private, commercial, non-profit, and academic) in Australia, and globally, that are addressing distributed or remote energy issues. The newly-formed centre includes a growing coalition of members of the local and global microgrid value chain. Co-founder Terry Mohn said "WA was the ideal base of operations as the state was home to one of the largest microgrid networks in the world and easy access to approximately 1/3 of the world's population."AMCOE aims to champion microgrids of future and a new era of regional growth, new jobs and industry development beyond traditional industries. With approximately 1 billion people still living without access to electricity, and rising electricity costs and outages a growing issue for many, AMCOE is very excited about supporting microgrid development, deployment and commercialisation and the associated employment opportunities that will arise from the global transition towards reliable, safe, affordable renewable energy. AMCOE will promote STEM education, awareness, legislative support and advocacy to help manage the impact of this transition. The global microgrids market is estimated to be valued at US$30 billion in 2022, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 15 percent between 2018 and 2022, according to GlobalData.
