The Australian Tap Dance Festival (ATDF) is about bringing the tap community and public together to learn, share, meet and enjoy all things tap.The annual Australian Tap Dance Festival shuffles into Melbourne with a world class line-up of dancers arriving for Australia's premiere celebration of tap from across Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the United States.The Australian Tap Dance Festival is the only festival of its kind in Australasia and offers an action-packed week of tap and choreography introductions, master classes, jams, dance battles and competitions, group practices, seminars and special events for all ages and levels.From the Festival Director, Winston Morrison:The festival was started to further enhance the development of tap dance in Australia by presenting to dancers the opportunity to learn from, build relationships with and be seen by passionate tap teachers from Australia wide and abroad. The invaluable experiences from the classes, performances, special tap events and celebrations were inspired by the best parts from festivals we had experienced overseas. The results have been incredible over the last 8 years creating a tap community known by the world with many participants evolving to become high level tap dancers and leaders themselvesFrom the Festival Producer, Ella Lehaf:The art of tap dance is always evolving and still thrives across the globe since its early American roots. We strive to build awareness and offer access to the history of the art form, paying respects to those who came before that provide the platform we are fortunate to have today. And from here we also explore where the art form is heading from childhood tap lessons and adult fitness classes to social media and the world stage, tap dance continues to be rich with possibilities and new techniques which we aim to showcase at the festival.
