The tale puts a female FBI agent on the trail of a band of Islamist terrorists, tracking them from Washington to the Pacific Northwest and then inland, into Montana and Wyoming. The terrorists are trying to get their hands on the raw material for a dirty bomb. They target a natural-gas drilling site that uses technological gear built around radioactive material.The drilling hits a rich pool of gas. Trouble is, it also hits something else — something that can make a dirty bomb look like a trifle to a terrorist. Can the FBI agent put a cap on this threat? Again: For characters and plot (especially the plot's surprise-twist ending), "A Reason for Dying" can hold its own against most thrillers.
