Fine Art photographer, specializing in portaiture and landscape photography.Avigail Schimmel was born in Jerusalem and graduated from the Bezalel Art Academy, in 1995. In 1996 after traveling extensively she settled in New York City. In New York Avigail worked as a professional photographer, freelancing at Sotheby's New York and shooting for various editorials including the New York Times magazine. Her work was featured in galleries and museums in New York, Israel and Europe. In 2005 Avigail moved to Paris where she now is based.Daughter of Hebrew poet Harold Schimmel, Avigail has collaborated with her father on several occasions. "The Library", a book of poems and photographs was published in 1999 by Even Hoshen press.In 2003 she was chosen as one of Photo District News magazine's thirty emerging photographers. Exhibitions have included a one-person show at Tibor De Nagy Gallery, New York, The Alice Austin House Museum, Staten Island and The Museum of Israeli Art, Israel, the Musée de l'Elysée, Zurich, and Palazzo dei Consoli, Gubbio, Italy. Most recently a one-person show at Canal Pictures and Art gallery, Paris, 2008. Her work has been featured in various publications among them The New York Times Magazine, O The Oprah magazine, PDN, and NY Arts magazine. Her photographs have been well received in the United States and abroad.
