DORA manages a medium-sized olive grove, located in a hilly area in the centre of Sicily, with the main aim of producing a very high quality extra virgin olive oil thanks to the employment of sustainable agricultural practices. DORA looks after every stage of the production cycle, from harvest to bottle: all the work is done in the farm, where there is an in-house cutting-edge oil-mill powered by solar panels to guarantee not only the top quality, but environmental sustainability as well. The farm has HACCP system introduced and all the nutrition data recorded on the label as result of laboratory tests. DORA safeguards and makes careful use of agro-systems' natural resources and rural landscape, meaning with the word "agro-systems" those agricultural ecosystems which are an excellent model of multifunctional agriculture facing the complex relationship between rural economic development, on the one hand, and natural resources, on the other. "Le gemme di DORA" Extra Virgin Olive Oil is an original Italian excellence. Fresh squeezed from the fruit of Biancolilla cultivar, thanks to its extraordinary delicacy it is widely appreciated for being an extremely gentle and smooth oil, with a slight fruity flavour and a pronounced aftertaste resembling green leaves, almonds and white flowers, which let DORA's Extra Virgin Olive Oil be a unique "gem". Another main aspect of DORA is the multi-functionality, in other words a wide number of correlated activities and projects that the farm carries on in the field of environmental education, rural development, R&D, renewable energy production, safeguard of cultural heritage, land conservation and so on. Among the Italian Rural Excellences selected by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture under the LEADER Programme, DORA works every day to realise a cutting- edge and open-air workshop of sustainability which primarily spreads a vision more than just ordinary products and services.
