Bacano Bakery is an Oakland-born business. Our new bakery and cafe is located in north Emeryville. Bacano Bakery is dedicated to creating outstanding, all natural, artisan baked goods. Bacano is a slang word in Spanish and Portuguese that means cool, trendy, really nice, best friend.Our goodies are made with ancient grains, flours and nuts that are naturally gluten-free. All of our products are made from scratch – we don't use a gluten-free flour mix as the foundation for our recipes, rather, each recipe is consciously crafted to give you a healthy and delicious experience. We use a variety of flour combinations for our creations: teff, millet, quinoa, amaranth, flax meal, brown rice, sorghum, almond, hazelnut, coconut and many others. We also use different sweeteners: fresh fruit, coconut nectar, maple syrup and honey, as well as brown sugar and cane sugar when needed. We never use artificial sweeteners, preservatives or products containing GMOs. And almost all of the produce we use is fresh, local, seasonal and organic.Bacano Bakery believes in buying local, using compostable materials, ensuring our suppliers apply green practices, reducing use of energy in all of our logistics and operations, and reducing the carbon footprint of our entire operations as much as is possible. We believe that by diversifying the food resources used in baking, together we contribute to reducing the dependency on sugar, butter, wheat and eggs in the baking industry. We support family-owned and worker-owned growers, mills and distributors and family farms throughout California. It's our goal to provide more healthy and tasty food options, and in doing so we contribute to the sustainability of our commodities and resources.
