Balsmeyer & Everett pioneered the transition in visual effects and title design from photo-mechanical (opticals) to digital compositing. Creative Director Randy Balsmeyer also pioneered the use of portable motion control camera systems for feature films (Dead Ringers, Ghost). The company began working in 3D animation in 1992, and began digital compositing in 1995. Balsmeyer & Everett was best known for its creative collaborations with Spike Lee, the Coen brothers, Woody Allen and Robert Altman. The company was acquired in 2001 by Big Film Design.
