Basco is an open, Spanish buffet style bar that mixes modern industrial fittings with the building's original rustic brickwork. This visual mix of the old and the new pervades throughout, with hipster portraits of artists such as Salvador Dali and Frida Kahlo, and graffiti references to more classic Spanish culture. The food is mostly pintxos, Spanish snack food made to be eaten on toothpicks. Help yourself to as many pintxos as you like, the bill at the end is calculated by how many toothpicks you have on your plate. The snacks themselves include things such as tiger prawn mornay, deep fried camembert cheese, barramundi with avocado and mango salsa.Drinkswise, we run the gamut; wine (mostly Spanish), beer from local brewery Thunder Road, authentic Spanish sangrias and our specialised cocktail menu, which itself is a mix of the familiar standards and also some new tricks.Basco is not a place where you wait an hour for the food to turn up, we keep it simple and flowing; you come through the door to enjoy yourself at your own pace. And then there is our function space...Birthdays, engagements or other special events, we have the elegance of the Private Function Room, upstairs and secure from random vagrants and determined party crashers. A dedicated dance floor, lush interior, integrated sound systems (for the DJ you might have brought with you), and an expansive balcony for starlight partying. We have a private entrance for maximum privacy and security. And of course the same freshly made platters of Spanish canapés and the same fine social lubricants we've taken as our personal style.
