BasicNeeds Pakistan is a not-for-profit mental health and development advocacy organization that implements and promotes initiatives to transform the lives of people with mental illness or epilepsy by providing access to integrated mental health care, social and economic services in the communities of Pakistan. In the process, we empower individuals and their families and involve communities and partner with government and other organizations to influence public opinion and policy and enable people with mental illness or epilepsy to live and work successfully in their community. BasicNeeds Pakistan is member of international BasicNeeds network with headquarter in UK. It has been registered as separate entity Under Section 02 of Companies Ordinance 1984- Certificate no Corporate Universal Identification No-0090056 dated 26th September 2014BasicNeeds entered Pakistan in 2011 to implement its Mental Health & Development (MHD) model with initial financial support of British Asian Trust (BAT) and Aman Foundation. Today, the BasicNeeds program is underway in districts Malir & Korangi of Karachi and district Matiari in collaboration with implementing partners, with plans to expand soon in different districts of Pakistan. Mashal (that became part of BasicNeeds Pakistan in Dec 2016) identifies with the local setting in Pakistan. The products being created and designed by our mental health patients are under the brand name of Mashal (in Urdu means "light", "lantern", "torch"). Mashal stands for Mental and Social Health Advocacy and Literacy.
