Bukkyō Dendō Kyōkai America (BDK America) is an independent U.S. nonprofit corporation founded in 1986 as the first overseas partner of Bukkyō Dendō Kyōkai in Japan. Our mission is to share the teachings of the Buddha for greater understanding and to foster world peace.Scholars and students of the Dharma may know us for the BDK English Tripiṭaka series, providing authoritative and accessible editions of the Tripiṭaka, the three baskets of Buddhist wisdom, from the Chinese Mahayana Canon. The series aims over the years to unlock all the treasures of this great resource.Travelers (and some followers of the Buddhist path) may know us for "The Teaching of Buddha", a short compilation of some very basic texts from Pali and Sanskrit sources, and applicable to all Buddhist schools and sects, often found in fine hotels and friendly temples.BDK America is headquartered in Moraga, California, where it provides occasional classes in cultural arts of Japan, meditation, and related Buddhist topics.
