Retail - Oakland, California, United States
Founded by Stevonne Ratliff in 2010; Beija-Flor Naturals was one of the first D2C brands online to address the specific skin and haircare needs of Women of Color. Beija-Flor is also one of the first cosmetic companies in the United States to utilize nutrient rich Brazilian botanical ingredients in skin and haircare. Because of the lack of natural and organic beauty on the market that addressed the needs of Black Women, Ratliff became a self taught chemist and began formulating products in her kitchen. The brand instantly became a viral hit among green beauty and natural hair early adaptors, and Beija-Flor Naturals amassed a cult following and international organic press. In 2013, Ratliff took a step back to pursue other entrepreneurial endeavors and she developed a brick and mortar retailer named Concept Forty-Seven in 2010. The shop operated for a total of 8 years and supported 100+ local, indie, women and BIPOC owned brands in its San Francisco and Oakland stores. Beija-Flor Naturals and its founder Stevonne Ratliff has been featured in the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Elle, Vogue, San Francisco Magazine, NPR and Byrdie. The Beija-Flor Naturals line of products has grown online exponentially and hopes of expanding into major retailers and increase its D2C reach in 2021.
