Beijing Phabuilder Biotechnology Co., Ltd. is an innovative synthetic biology startup established by the transformation of scientific and technological achievements of Tsinghua University. Based on nearly 30 patented technologies developed by Professor George Guo-Qiang CHEN, the director of the Center for Synthetic & Systems Biology of Tsinghua University, the company has built a disruptive "Next Generation Industrial Biotechnology (NGIB)" platform. This innovative platform realizes non-sterile and continuous fermentation in the production and reduces the production cost by more than 30%. The company has launched its first product - biodegradable material Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). This new material can be used not only in medical scenarios such as medical microspheres, 3D-printed bone nails, and surgical sutures but also as raw materials to manufacture biodegradable plastic products such as packaging bags, agricultural films, and disposable tableware, to provide green solutions for carbon neutral. PhaBuilder completed the angel round financing of nearly 50 million yuan led by the seed fund of Sequoia Capital China in July this year. In September, PhaBuilder signed a contract with Zhaoquanying Town to land in the expansion area of Beijing Sino-German Industrial Park and build a 1,000 t/a PHA intelligent production demonstration line, and will build a 10,000 t/a PHA production line in 2022.
